Boss Bans?
You clock off at 6pm, receive phone calls until 8pm and then emails bombard your laptop until 2am.. sound familiar?Well this wont be the case for long as:
Australia anticipates passing a "right to disconnect" bill, prohibiting employers from demanding after-hours digital availability, with potential fines.
Inspired by European models, the proposed bill aims to protect work-life balance and restrict employers from exploiting hours on hours of unpaid work. This is a pivotal moment in labor legislation and could drastically change the world of work and the competitiveness in the job industry as we know it. If this interests you, read more here.
Doxxing debates
The digital scene has faced the world with many issues, including; doxxing.
Doxxing is to search for and publish private or identifying information about someone on the internet, typically with malicious intent.
Australia's proposed doxxing law aims to combat online harassment by penalizing the unauthorized disclosure of private information. While addressing cyberbullying, concerns about potential constraints on free speech have surfaced. The legislation reflects the ongoing challenge of balancing privacy protection with the preservation of fundamental rights in the digital era.
Is this the beginning of the Digital world becoming more restricted and how will this impact elements like social media, gaming and online marketing. You can read the story that provoked the Australian government to re-asses this area of law here.
Government gun grab
Western Australia's new novel gun buyback initiative offers licensed firearm owners the chance to surrender their revolvers, semi-automatic handguns, and double-barrelled shotguns to the government.
There are more than 360,000 licensed firearms owned by fewer than 90,000 Western Australians, and the new legislation will impact all of them in a responsible way.
This groundbreaking move, aimed at improving public safety, sets numerical limits on firearm ownership based on license types, transforming the region into a pioneering force in firearm regulation. The proposed laws also tighten licensing regulations and introduce a cutting-edge digital license scheme for enhanced oversight.
