Civilian Heroes... or Ci-Villains?

law breaking heroes

In the realm where comic book fantasies collide with reality, the allure of becoming a superhero is undeniable. Yet, the line between heroism and vigilantism is starkly drawn by the law. While comics portray heroes as allies of justice, in reality, acts outside the law, even if well-intentioned, are deemed illegal vigilantism.

The consequences can be severe—assault, property damage, or coercion aren't magically excused because of spandex.

In truth, most comic book heroes, if real, would likely face imprisonment.

However, there are legal avenues for heroism, exemplified by figures like the "Black Widow" of Norfolk, Virginia, who blend crime-fighting with positivity.

Still, even unconventional acts, like vandalizing illegal signs, while potentially effective, are legally questionable. Being a hero within the confines of the law is possible, but it requires careful consideration and respect for legal boundaries. Learn more about why NOT to become a superhero here

surely there is no issue with just wearing the costume?

But what about just imitating or dressing up as a superhero or Villain? How about the mere act of just wearing a costume with a mask whilst driving?

The Result you might ask? A fine for driving with an obstructed view.

But surely the act of wearing a costume can’t contribute to any laws or crimes. Think again. In Western Australia, there is a summary offence for wearing or even just carrying a costume with illegal intent. Although the costume wearing itself is not illegal, using it as an accessory to commit a crime is illegal in itself.

So, what we’ve learnt is dressing like superman or batman opens up the direct possibility for a 2 crimes opposed to the usual 1. Maybe it’s time for a switch out of a super-suit to a regular one.

Not so Invincible

In the realm where comic book fantasies collide with real-world legal battles, the saga of "Invincible" takes center stage. The ongoing dispute between acclaimed writer Robert Kirkman and artist William Crabtree over the ownership rights of this beloved superhero series has reached a dramatic resolution just before trial.

Crabtree's accusations of deception by Kirkman, alleging the surreptitious acquisition of his ownership stake to ease the series' sale to studios, have kept fans and legal aficionados alike on edge.

Despite a 2005 agreement seemingly cementing Kirkman as the sole creator and owner, Crabtree persisted, claiming co-creation status. With U.S. District Judge Maame Ewusi-Mensah Frimpong's recent ruling allowing Crabtree to challenge the agreement's validity, the stakes were high. A potential windfall of revenue from "Invincible" TV spin-offs hung in the balance. Yet, the saga's climax arrived with the settlement, leaving the terms shrouded in mystery and speculation. bad advice from jeremy

You know what’s happening. Three most OVERATTED superheroes and/or villains. Here we go.

3. Batman

Major plot armor. He has no powers and is just smart and pretty strong. He faces some of the weaker villains and gets praised for having hundreds of civilians dead, 1 symbol in the sky and a smiling clown man that keeps getting away.

2. Spiderman

Yep lets knock two “Big Dogs” out straight away. Similar to batman, he just isn’t all that. He faces considerably harder villains then the bat-fraud but when push comes to shove he vanishes in space. Give him 5-10 years and he might go places (other than stopping a grocery store robbery).

1. Iron Man

Very, very smart man, but what is he without the suit? Has an easily targetable weakness and is seemingly always getting bailed out by someone other then himself. Thanks for taking on the infinity stones and R.I.P but lowkey someone else walks away from that completely fine.
